Dr. Kevin Lilly
Education: Dr. Lilly graduated from Sioux City North High School in 1985. He attended the University of Iowa for his undergraduate education. In 1988, he entered the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and graduated in 1992. Following graduation, he was accepted into an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency program at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where he gained advanced training in a wide range of treatments.
Professional Memberships and Awards: Dr. Lilly is a member of the American Dental Association, Iowa Dental Association, Sioux City Dental Society and Academy of General Dentistry. He formerly served as the president of the Northwest District of the Iowa Dental Association and on several councils for the Iowa Dental Association.
Dr. Kevin Lilly earned his Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in 2000, only eight years after graduating from dental school. To apply for this award, a dentist must complete over 500 hours of certified continuing education. The second half of the process involved a rigorous examination with questions covering all aspects of dentistry, including the specialty areas. Less than one percent of all dentists earn this award, and most who do have been in practice for well over 15 years.
Community Service: Alongside the team at Lilly Family Dentistry, Dr. Lilly participates in the many community outreach programs that the practice takes part in. He has partnered with the Gospel Mission of Sioux City, the American Dental Association, the Iowa Mission of Mercy, as well as hosting the Dentistry from the Heart event, all to provide local residents and families with free dental care and education.
Dr. Lilly and his staff have become very involved in the community. They love to volunteer at the local Foodbank, work with Support Siouxland Soldiers, they have created teams to run/walk in local races, participate in local health fairs, and they have adopted the road that runs in front of the practice, and make sure it is cleaned up throughout the year. Dr. Lilly is also a great supporter of many local teams, and other community fundraising events. He truly enjoys giving back to the community in any way that he can!
Continuing Education: Dr. Lilly keeps up with the latest developments in dentistry through his commitment to continuing education. The state of Iowa requires dentists to attend 30 hours of continuing education every two years. Dr. Lilly regularly exceeds this requirement.
Family: Dr. Kevin Lilly and Dr. Jane Lilly have been happily married since 1992. They have two sons, Carter born in 1995 and Jake born in 1996.
Dr. Jane Lilly
Education: Dr. Jane Lilly graduated from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in biology. During the course of her undergraduate education, she received her certification as an EMT and served as a member of the Illinois Emergency Medical Services on campus. Dr. Lilly attended the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, where she earned her DDS degree in 1992. Following graduation, she was accepted into the Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency program at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. The purpose of the AEGD program is to achieve advanced training in more complex aspects of dental treatment in order to provide patients with excellent care.
Professional Memberships and Awards: Dr. Lilly is a member of the American Dental Association, Iowa Dental Association, and of the Sioux City Dental Society. She has also been a member of the American Orthodontic Society since 2011. She has been a board member for the Council on Legislation and Iowa Dental Political Action Committee of the Iowa Dental Association. Dr. Lilly has served as president of the Sioux City Dental Society and as a board member on the Council on Dental Health. During her dental training at the University of Iowa, she earned the Dean’s Award for Excellence four years in a row.
Community Service: In the past, Lilly Family Dentistry has provided the residents and workers of the Gospel Mission with needed dental care at no cost. The dental office participates in the annual Iowa Mission of Mercy, and started hosting a Dentistry from the Heart event, these are all events that provide free dental care for many people in our community.
Dr. Jane Lilly has volunteered for the National Children’s Dental Health Month (NCDHM). She gave dental health presentations and donated toothbrushes, floss, and toothpaste to many children in the Sioux City public and private schools.
In 2003, the American Dental Association held its 1st annual “Give Kids a Smile!” Day. Lilly Family Dentistry participated in this event for several years, providing free dental treatment to children whose families are not able to afford or do not have access to dental care.
Continuing Education: Dr. Lilly receives dental continuing education credits well beyond the requirements of the State of Iowa to provide her patients with the best of what dentistry has to offer.
Family: Married to Dr. Kevin Lilly, Dr. Jane Lilly has two wonderful children, Jake and Carter.
Dr. Phuong Nguyen
Education: Dr. Nguyen attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for her undergraduate degree in biochemistry. She graduated from the University Of Nebraska Medical Center College Of Dentistry with a DDS degree in 2015. Upon graduation, she earned the honor of highest distinction.
Professional Memberships and Awards: Dr. Nguyen is a member of the American Dental Association and Academy of General Dentistry. During dental school, she received the Hanau Best of the Best in Prosthodontics Award for her excellence in the study and clinical applications of prosthodontics.
Community Service: Dr. Nguyen has been involved in Mission of Mercy, Sharing Clinic, and Children’s Dental Day.
Continuing Education: Dr. Nguyen is always trying to further her education by taking continuing education courses. She is currently taking a course in orthodontics in order to provide her patients with options to enhance their smiles.
Other: Dr. Nguyen got married in June 2015 to her husband, Nick. They enjoy playing tennis together and trying new food wherever they travel to.
Dr. Joe Kayl
Education: Dr. Joe (Joseph) Kayl is originally from Bronson, Iowa where he was born and raised. He attended Bishop Heelan High School in Sioux City, Iowa and Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota for his undergraduate work. Dr. Kayl is a 2023 graduate of the University of Iowa College of Dentistry.
Professional Memberships and Awards: He participated in the dental fraternity, Delta-Sigma-Delta, and received the Dr. Milton S. and Alice Wirtz Scholarship for clinical excellence.
Community Service: Dr. Kayl is a lifelong Siouxland native and is looking forward to getting involved in his community and the many community service events that the Lilly office traditionally participates in.
Continuing Education: Dr. Kayl is excited to begin putting into practice all that he learned in dental school. He is a fan of continuing education courses and plans to continue to grow his knowledge in dentistry. He believes that evidence-based dentistry has shown that a healthy mouth relates to a healthy body, meaning improvement in oral health, leads to an enhanced quality of life. He plans to continue to learn more about Invisalign, preventive oral health education, crowns, fillings, and dentures and surgical procedures, including crown lengthening, bone grafts, and complicated tooth extractions.
Family: Dr. Kayl is excited to begin his dental career back in his hometown where he can be close to his family in Siouxland. He looks forward to spending time with his family, including his niece and nephew, and to help on his family farm in Ponca, Nebraska. Being an athlete in high school and college, Dr. Kayl is looking forward to building relationships in the community and spending some time golfing, playing basketball, and enjoying all that Sioux City has to offer.
